The “Textural Scavenger Hunt”
This challenge is about training your eye to see the art in what’s around you by focusing on a single, often-overlooked detail: texture. It’s a great way to quiet a busy mind and practice mindful observation.
The Challenge:
Find three different objects and photograph their texture.
The Rules:
Get close. Your photo should be a close-up abstract shot of the texture itself. Don’t show the entire object. A photo of a brick wall should be a photo of the rough brick, not the entire wall.
Focus on one thing. Is the texture rough, smooth, bumpy, or ridged? Can you capture that specific quality?
Embrace the light. Notice how light and shadow change the texture. Find a spot where the light is dramatic to create a more interesting photo.
This is a low-pressure way to give your brain a break from “the big picture.” By focusing on a single detail, you’ll be amazed at the hidden beauty you can unveil in your own home or neighborhood.
