The “Messy Pages” Challenge: Breaking the Fear of Ruining Your Journal
Ever felt the pressure to make every journal page perfect? Let’s smash that fear. Introducing the Messy Pages Challenge: a five-day journaling experiment where imperfection is the goal.
Day 1: The Ugly Scribble Page
Take a blank page. Now, scribble all over it. Use different pens, random doodles, overlapping words—whatever feels chaotic. The goal? To make it as messy as possible.
Day 2: Destroy and Rebuild
Rip a page out of an old notebook or magazine and tape or staple it into your journal. Write over it, paint on it, make it part of the chaos.
Day 3: Write Without Thinking
Set a timer for 3 minutes and write nonstop. Don’t edit. Don’t overthink. Just let your brain spill onto the page. Even if it’s nonsense, it counts.
Day 4: Cover Up a Page
Pick an old journal entry and cover it up. Paint over it, paste paper scraps, or black out words with a marker. See what new meaning emerges.
Day 5: The Final Collage
Take the bits and pieces from the last four days and create a collage page. Let the mess tell a story.
By the end, your journal will have raw, unfiltered, creative energy—and you’ll be less afraid to get messy.
