Step 1: Start with the First Thing That Comes to Mind

Write the first word, phrase, or thought in your head—no matter how dumb, random, or mundane it seems. “Spilled coffee,” “neon green,” or “why does my neighbor vacuum at 2 AM?” Whatever it is, write it.

Step 2: Layer, Layer, Layer

Now, mess up the page on purpose. Smear ink, glue down a torn receipt, slap a sticker over some words. Journaling isn’t just about writing—it’s about building.

Step 3: React to the Chaos

Once you’ve layered elements onto the page, respond to them. If you pasted a movie ticket, jot down something about that night. If you scribbled a word, turn it into a poem or doodle. Let randomness be your muse.
